Chrome Shedders
The Chrome Shedders represent an exciting new venture at Chrome Sheep Studs, emerging in response to industry pressures concerning shearing, crutching, labour costs/shortages and animal welfare issues.
This initiative is still in its early stages, with the stud currently trailing several different breeds to determine the most suitable option that aligns with Chrome’s breeding aims. A significant embryo transfer program has been initiated to accelerate the development of this new breed and give us greater selection for sheep bred in a southern environment.
Chrome Shedders will prioritize carcase quality, aiming to produce sheep with good constitution, carcass, and bone structure similar to our current Chromedale ewes.
The stud intends to introduce a small number of shedding rams into their auction sale in early 2025.
